چکیده
Abstract This article reports on a case study that aims to help students develop mechanistic reasoning through constructing model based stop-motion animation of physical phenomenon. Mechanistic is valuable thinking strategy for in trying make sense scientific phenomena. Ten ninth-grade used software create an projectile motion. Retrospective think-aloud interviews were conducted investigate how the construction induced students’ reasoning. did occur while engaged creating animation, particular chunking and sequencing. Moreover, all eventually exhibited including abstract concepts, e.g., not directly observable agents. Students who reached highest level reasoning, i.e., chaining, demonstrated deeper conceptual understanding content.

Wave Motion and Stop-Bands in Pipes with Helical Characteristics Using Wave Finite Element Analysis
Pipes are widely used in many industrial and mechanical applications and devices. Although there are many different constructions according to the specific application and device, these can show helical pattern, such as spiral pipes, wire-reinforced pipes/shells, spring-suspension, and so on. Theoretical modelling of wave propagation provides a prediction about the dynamic behavior, and it is f...
متن کاملStudent-Generated Animations: Supporting Middle School Students’ Visualization, Interpretation and Reasoning of Chemical Phenomena
The study explores the roles of instructional animation to support middle school students’ learning of chemistry concepts. We discuss two roles of animations: a constructivist tool to support visualization and interpretation of chemical processes, and a problem-solving tool to support reasoning about chemical phenomena. We developed Chemation, a handheld-based chemistry animation tool, to addre...
متن کاملEvaluating animations as student aids in learning computer algorithms
We conducted two experiments designed to examine whether animations of algorithms would help students learn the algorithms more effectively. Across the two studies we used two different algorithms--depth-first search and binomial heaps--and used two different subject populations-students with little or no computer science background and students who were computer science majors--and examined wh...

متن کاملThe Effect of Teaching History of Physics on Student-Teachers’ Understanding of the Process of Model Construction in Physics
To improve student teachers’ understanding of the process of model construction in Physics, it was hypothesized that teaching the history of Physics may be of help. To test this hypothesis, two groups of senior year female student-teachers in Teaching of Physics at one of the campuses of Farhangian University in Tehran were chosen: One group had passed a course on the history of Physics, while ...
